Bluff Creek Complex site 14HP5 near Anthony Kansas
14BU1308 Archaic Site in Kansas
First
contracted by the U of N Dakota. Kansas Archaeologists continue to find lithic
material about 15 feet down near the edge of a creek on the Whitewater River
shed Southeast of Potwin Kansas
The original find was by a Kansas Geomorphologist of burnt limestone
in the bank near where the dog in the picture is cooling off. The cooking feature
is only one of three found in Kansas. (see the following picture:)
The archaic site south of Potwin, 14BU1308. This is a picture of the
limestone earth oven as it was found in the creek bank. The photo was taken
from a boat in the creek, looking toward the west at least 3 years ago.
Roger Ward works hard to keep the project going including some new excavations.
